Our Memorial Garden houses a large sculpture designed by memorial artist Barney Zeitz. The Garden is gated, and upon entry, guests are faced with a solid wall. The landscape conveys a sense of confinement symbolic of the situation faced by the Jews of Europe.

When entering the Garden, one must turn immediately and proceed down a short path, reminiscent of the selections undergone by Jews upon arriving at some concentration camps (some were sent to the left for use as slave laborers; others to the right for immediate death in the gas chambers).

The garden opens up into a wide reflective space. Guests feel the uplift of liberation and see symbols of freedom. In both Hebrew and English are the words “עם ישראל חי (Am Israel Chai),” which translates to “The People of Israel Live.” Trees, flowers, and other plantings adorn the garden as symbols of rebirth and hope for the future.
