The LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE FOR TEENS (LIFT) of the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center, is a program for students from diverse backgrounds in grades 9-12. Participants will learn the important lessons of the Holocaust, along with other genocides and human rights issues, and will participate in leadership training workshops and group bonding.
This program will build a safe space for students to explore dark parts of history while developing the skills to organize for and articulate their opinions on pressing social issues. At the end of this program, participants should want to inspire their fellow teens to stand up for those who have been marginalized and to recognize, and resolve to change, their part in systemic oppression. We will meet 1-2 times per month for two hours.
We are looking for two staff members who have taken courses in Holocaust and genocide studies and human rights. Meetings will begin in September 2022 and go through April 2023. We anticipate that staff will spend 5-10 hours per month working on preparing for and facilitating during meetings. Staff will be given the opportunity to help select paid speakers. Each staff member will receive a stipend of $500 for the program.
