SUMMARY:Author Talk: Daniela Gerson\, "The Wanderers"
DESCRIPTION:Where: Dwares JCC | Providence\, RI \n\n\n\nJoin the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center for an evening with award-winning journalist and author Daniela Gerson\, in conversation with David Cicilline\, former U.S. Congressman\, former Mayor of Providence\, and President and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation. \n\n\n\nGerson will discuss her acclaimed new book\, The Wanderers: A Story of Exile\, Survival\, and Unexpected Love in the Shadow of World War II. \n\n\n\nWhen Daniela Gerson met her wife\, Talia Inlender\, they discovered that their families shared an extraordinary history. Decades earlier\, their grandparents had lived only blocks apart in a small Polish town before fleeing east to survive the Holocaust. Their parallel journeys carried them thousands of miles across the Soviet Union through exile\, forced labor\, and years of displacement before they eventually rebuilt their lives. \n\n\n\nPart family history\, part investigative journey\, and part exploration of the refugee experience\, The Wanderers uncovers the largely overlooked story of the majority of Polish Jews who survived the Holocaust by escaping eastward into the Soviet Union. In doing so\, it offers a powerful reflection on survival\, migration\, family memory\, and the difficult choices people make when seeking safety and a future for their children. \n\n\n\nFollowing a brief presentation by the author\, Gerson will join David Cicilline for a conversation about the book\, followed by audience Q&A. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBooks will be available for purchase and signing. \n\n\n\nPlease RSVP here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree and open to the public.
